The More You Know, The Less You Need
This holiday is my favorite!
Thanksgiving is more than just a day we come together with friends and family, its actually a spiritual practice. The act of giving thanks for all we have is sacred. It is a way of living life & can easily lift you from a bad mood into a state of joy.
I never know what I am going to write about and just allow what I feel needs to come through me to pour out. I read this quote by JFK and thought how true it is – so easy to utter words but to live by them takes integrity. You know how they call the day after Thanksgiving ‘black Friday’ its the day that retailers actually come out of the ‘red’ and make a profit taking them into the ‘black’.
I wanted to share with you my thoughts about this & how we have been named ‘consumers’ not ‘citizens’ & the amount of our consumption here in the U.S. has created some real serious consequences. I recently watched a documentary on Netflix which summed things up entitled: Death by China.
This film confronts the most urgent problem facing America today – our insatiable desire for MORE. No one likes that feeling of gorging themselves with too much food on Thanksgiving. I know more than likely this isn’t what you want to read, however I do feel that to be fully emotionally intelligent we must be able to talk about things that make us uncomfortable.
With Friday being the biggest retail day of the year I thought it was a good time to share this information. Did you know that since China began flooding the U.S. market with illegally subsidized products in 2001, over 50,000 American factories have disappeared, more than 25 million Americans can’t find a decent job, and America now owes more than 3 trillion dollars to the world’s largest totalitarian nation.
There are so many issues that the film points out from pollution, inhumane treatment of workers, building a huge military with all the money they make from us – that concerns me, think about the implications of a military so large and powerful they can easily take on other countries including the U.S. which they basically own.
I know you may be thinking this is a huge problem more than you or I can really do anything about – but maybe that isn’t true. What if we boycotted Chinese products? What if we decided that we wouldn’t buy from China. Would things begin to shift? I think so. I think this is the only way they will shift. We can’t wait for the government to do something they are the ones who signed the agreements to allow this to happen.
Death by China exposes that the U.S.-China relationship is broken and must be fixed if the world is going to be a place of peace and prosperity. I highly urge you to watch this film and be informed. Did you know that when you shop at Walmart 92% of everything is from China? I know it’s near impossible to not buy from China – but what I am really encouraging you to look at is do you really need more ‘stuff’? I hope you receive this information in the spirit I wanted to share. I am grateful for you and your continued support. I hope your thanksgiving is bountiful and you are surrounded by your loved ones – I wish for you full bellies, smiling faces & much abundance. Remember that you can be happy with less – more isn’t always better. The more you know the less you need.
Much Love & Light
